I'd be really careful with buying black coated metals from a fashion watch brand (and in general, really). Coating like that is notorious for scratching off easily. I personally wouldn't buy a watch coated in black if it wasn't PVD, and even then I would baby the shit out of it.

However, it does sound like you specifically want a black bracelet, so just look up reviews before you buy a certain model.As for watch quality in general, try looking at Citizen, Orient, and Seiko. They have designs that are similar to some of Nixon's stuff, and their watches have better value. You could get a much more interesting watch.Most of us find a quartz watch uninteresting.

If you're really into what makes a watch tick you could find some decent mechanical watches for the same price that are 'more interesting,' but that interest is entirely subjective. If you're interested only in its aesthetics, then it doesn't really matter if it's quartz or mechanical. If you are interested in how it works, then there's a lot of info in the sidebar about watches and what's good in this price range.
